The Cold Steel Black Rhino ( see pic below)

Rhino.jpg

has highly polished aluminum bolsters and frame.

Can you tell me how well that polished aluminum stands up to wear, for instance the kind that one would get in a pants pocket if it's rubbing/bumping against things like keys?

Thanks,

Folderguy

I own one and it is a very fine well built old school type knife. The bolsters scratch pretty easy and the micarta is kind of slick. So I just rubbed mine down with some scotch brite. Takes care of the scratches and affords a better grip to me. keepem sharp

Thanks, Longbow, for the info. Much appreciated.

P.S. If you'd have a few photos of your knife that you could post, I'd be interested is seeing what it looks like. Some of the photos one finds online don't really give a good idea of what I should expect if I were to order the knife online.

Thanks again.

I liked the blade but found the scales and bolsters a little too bling so I had mine 'pimped' with G-10 scales and Ti liners.... its now a Blue Rhino, as in blue collar. :p

Where'd you get the Ti liners, and are those scales commercially available or did you have to have them made?

Master pimpage!

If I get one, I'll be pimping the knife: jimping that will be quite functional, also grooves down the top of the handle more or less from where the liner lock starts most of the way to the pommel. And will consider adding it to the underside of the handle as well. Not so sure I'll groove the scales though... perhaps I'll replace them with some other material.

Thinking about stag or ram or buffalo horn...

Did you do one of your hard use tests on that knife?

----

Just found your review of the knife... gonna check it out now.

I tested it once already using the old format, but it will be retested again.

That test looked pretty good... Is the new test the one where you cut lots of cardboard and then see if it will still cut newsprint?

It will be like the M2, BM, Strider, ZT 0301, CS Lawman, 2010 Recon 1 and Voyager Hard Use tests.

The Gold Membership went through, but when I checked, your initial PM didn't make it. Could you please resend it?

Thanks,
