I just picked one up on the auction site, it looks like a fake.

If you own one, does yours say "Cold Steel" on it?
Also, does it have rubberized handle, or just texture molded into the plastic?

Fake or real, it's a more formidable weapon than I though it would be. Anyone getting hit by it would have a really bad day.

imo the only credible synthetic puncture tool on the account of its time tested design adapted from ww2 (notably the s.o.e. / o.s.s. clandestine agencies) wrist daggers which were metal.
not aware of any "upgrades"
far as i know they were always zytel.
despite the fact that the entire
night shade line is moulded in grivory.
with those rubber grips like the jungle dart

Agreed, awesome knife. There is even a stag handled one - rare ! FYI - I have seen fake urban darts on the bay. The picture looks like the urban dart above, but there is no text on the handle, on the fake knife. I don't remember what the seller was calling the knife, and the price was around $20 ish (of course the seller was from china). I reported to ebay - last time ever reporting a fake to ebay - as nothing was done for months. As far as I know, they are still being sold on the bay.

They have varied some over the years. But as far as I know, they've always been entirely Zytel without markings and without any rubberized handle coating.

Maybe you could show us a picture of what you bought. I hate to say it, but if it came from an eBay seller, it could be anything from genuine Cold Steel to Chinese counterfeit to something some guy made in his garage from melted down oil containers.
