Question about the frame of a 301

As many of you guys know, I am working on a project. I messed up the wood scales I made for my 301. I messed up with the sheild. The sheild is one with the frame (I have attached a pic for ref.). I now have a nice set of stag I can use and now I am thinking of grinding the sheild down. Would anyone advise aginst this?

Thanks,
John

Hi John! I can see no reason not to. If you look at the current 303 stag limited edition, I am also certain that it does not have the shield. Furthermore, I have several custom 303's that the shield must have been ground down on as well because it is not there, so I would say do it.

Thanks guys for the replies. I will start on it in the morning, and get some pics of it and post them here.

Thanks again,
John

My opinion is only my opinion....custom 300s rarely have shield. I would collect non-shield customs as good and true 300 knives...300$'s

You're not being completely clear here...are you planning on cutting the shield off and gluing it on the stag scales (which would be my choice)...or just grinding it off into expensive dust???

I don't have one to look at, but Dremel makes a nice thin cutting disk for their grinders...I'd try to cut it off and use it...

...$.02 for DarrylS... :D

Thanks for the advise, but it was a little to late. I ground the shield off or flush how ever you want to say it. I got a nice slab of stag that is almost finished, but my Dremal flex shaft broke :jerkit:. After that happened I left for school, when I left there I des covered my alternator went out. I have to go in the morning to Auto Zone to get a new alternator and put it on, So it will be a few more days before I can get the scales finished. Here are a few pics anyway.

Thanks,
John
