Question about the gso 10

I have to say that I like my gso 10 but there are several things that I think could make it more functional
Concerning the handle I think the butt of the handle should be swept down to give a better grip while chopping
Concerning the tip, i think that a less pronounced spear point could help for battoning logs
A sharp spine would be useful to scrape tinder

Am I being obsessive or do other people think these mods would be useful ?

First, I'm not lucky enough to own a GSO 10.

Second, isn't the end of the handle already curved down? Do you want more? I saw some pics in another 10 thread where the user (maybe Chiral?) was gripping near the butt end and this looked like a good angle for chopping... at least from the still shot.

Less of a spear point might make it better for batoning, but I baton just fine with my BK9 which has a short clip point. I do see your point, though.

From what I read in the S! Starter link, it sounds like future runs will feature 90 degree spines.

And yes, you're being about as obsessive as most knife nuts are :D

The GSO-10 is already undergoing some life changes, which is why it isn't being offered on the SURVIVE! Starter. Looking at the things you're asking for, I would almost be inclined to think you've been leaning over my drawing table. ;)

As far as sharper spines go, that is already going to be a thing for all new production models. We're moving from media tumbling to a multi-step peening process, which will leave the edges much sharper and the entire blade generally more crisp and tight. The peening will also stress relieve the entire blade surface.

Hoping for at least .25 inch thick blade this time around. I don't own one right now but I found the design to be very interesting. Didn't care much for the .188 thickness though so got the SYKCO 1111 instead(had a 1311 and ditched it because of the blade thickness as well).

Please don't lose the point too much. Belly is good buy not if you lose the usable point.

Can't wait to get some sharp spines thats gonna make resisting futile for me.

I agree about the value of a 90° spine, and batoning ability, but a good point is still worth having.
