Question about the KO Work Sharp Blade Grinder

From the manual:

Unintended Uses:
• Industrial or commercial grinding or sharpening applications.
• Extended, continuous heavy duty use.

My question is, does anyone have any idea what they would consider "Extended, continuous heavy duty use"?

I just ordered the blade grinder attachment and when using this I plan on locking the trigger which I have never done before, just not sure how long it is safe to leave the motor run?

First of all, congrats. I like the BGA attachment.

I think their point is probably more of a CYA... in that it's not designed to be run all day in a commercial sharpening environment. But I've never had an issue locking and leaving it run during normal sharpening... I'll even let it run if I'm checking a blade. I've also done repairs where it'll run for quite a while without any problems. I've probably run it sharpening several knives for an hour or so, stopping only long enough to swap belts without any problem. And I've read where some are using it at gun/knife shows all day without issue (I think there was a recent post about that). In fact, typing this I recall seeing a video where WorkSharp was sharpening at Shotshow I believe for CRKT? using the BGA... I'll try and find it.

Only issue I've heard of is letting it run with the leather belt on low speed caused some issues with the motor burning out, but that belt I believe has been discontinued. But I have one and have used it on medium speed, long enough to polish a blade, with no problem.

So short answer, no worries as far as I can tell.

It would be safe to leave the motor running while you're sharpening a blade on it. That's what they made it for.

I would run my blade across it several times. Lift it up to check the edge. Bring the blade back down against the running belt. Lift it up, check again, do the other side.

If you're still on the same blade and on the same belt and you're not leaving the thing unattended, I would think it's safe to leave it running.

I just think they're saying you can't be running a mower blade sharpening service with a backlog of orders and expect it to last long.

I've used the set up for about 4 hours straight to sharpen a whole batch of kitchen knives with stopping just to replace blades or when I'm deburring.

I know, thread's kinda old now, but ran across it (it was for Benchmade)...
