Question about the left handed military

I read on another forum that spyderco will still make limited runs every now and again ( thread was over a year old ). I was curious if this is true? If so, how often does this occur and is there a way I could get on a waiting list?

I love my pm2 and I've gotten quite skilled at using it lefty... But I would like a true left handed spyderco.

I check the exchange periodically but i never see them.

AFAIK, the left handed Military was only ever produced once and I don't recall ever reading where someone from Spyderco said they planned to make more periodically. On the one hand, I'm sure the tooling still exists, so making another run would certainly be possible. On the other, IIRC, the original run didn't exactly fly off the shelves, so they may not have much incentive to do so but they're the only ones who can say for sure.

This is the quote from Sal in mid-2013:

"sal wrote:

So I guess it possible they will produce additional runs in the future, but it's been nearly 3 yrs with no news. Plans change and with all the new stuff they continuously have in their pipeline, I imagine it isn't high on the list. I would love to see a batch in a sprint steel and color, but I don't know if they could justify it on sales volume.

I'm very happy that I was able to score one on closeout before they disappeared from dealers, even traded off my Cruwear because I always picked my lefty to carry. I'm sure they still pop up on the exchange and ebay from time to time, but I assume it's getting less and less frequent. Good luck, hope you're able to score one!

I just sold one a few months ago. They do pop up from time to time and the price isn't usually outrageous. I let mine go on the bay for no reserve and it fetched about $140. Keep your eye open.

Also, I think another reason they may not make them is that the bulk of their product line is ambidextrous. Backlocks which make up the biggest part of the lineup as well as the cbbl are lefty friendly. I know the ManixXL isn't a Military but if you are left handed and want a large blade it is an option.

I really regret getting rid of mine. At the time I was thinking I could get one later. Boy was I wrong.

I have a lefty military purchased in 2013 and also thought production was completely done until the post that quoted Sal, which was the first that I've heard even a hint of an additional run.

Even though I'm left handed, I prefer the PM2 over the LH military, but would pick another one up if an exotic steel was used...no chance!

Thanks for the info everyone, I'll keep my eyes open and hope for one to pop up.

It has been long enough from my understanding. If Sal decided to produce a run, I bet they would sell out.

As a lefty, I consider myself very fortunate to own, carry, and use mine. Top-notch all-around. Zero blade play upon opening, superb grind and steel, and, of course, excellent ergonomics. If another run was issued with some variation in either the handle material or the blade steel, I would be eager to purchase one. I offer my compliments and gratitude to Mr. Glesser for the one run that was already issued.

I purchased mine back in the summer of 2013.. they were being discoed at the time.. (was not aware of that) sold it a couple of months later for a hundred bucks.. I think I paid $120.00.. regretted it ever since.. they pop up every now and then on the bay.. but they go for a lot more than a hundred bucks. I replaced the one I sold and added one more to the collection just in case.. on of the few knives I actually use.

The idea of a sprint run type sounds intriguing. However, I would prefer a plain Jane so I would actually use it. I guess it is a mute point. Hopefully I can find a user.
