Question about the Magnum Camp

My 2011 Ka-Bar catalog that I got in the mail yesterday says the Magnum Camp is the same thickness as the BK9 (0.188"). Is this true, or a misprint? I thought I had heard folks on here claiming the Magnum Camp had a thinner blade than the other large Beckers.....or maybe I misread something. I do know that some on here were wondering if the Magnum Camp could handle battoning or heavy chopping, and I don't see why that would be a concern if it is indeed the same thickness of my BK9 that I have done some serious work with. Or maybe the Magnum Camp has a thinner grind that some would think makes it weaker? I haven't had the pleasure of seeing one in person, so I don't know. Any thoughts?

Plenty of pics in the FAQ of the Magnum Camp.

The BK5 (Magnum Camp) is as thick as the BK9 and BK7 at its thickest point. The BK5 has a really high flat grind as well as a long swedge along the spine. If you measure at the spine, it will seem thinner, but going down about .25" it is as thick as the BK9, only to thin out again. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I usually am.

I recently bought a BK5 and love it, although I've had no time to beat on it. I played with one earlier during the BK5 pass around we had. I was surprised at its chopping and batoning ability. No slouch. The swedge will likely eat into your baton a little more than the BK9, but I don't think this should be a big deal to anyone. After all, it's firewood.

That's the correct size, 0.188" thick. I suppose it is the grind that makes some feel that it cannot baton. Less lenght, and girth makes the 5 a bit lighter than the BK7 or 9, so not as good of a chopper.
If you got it, and planned on batonning it, go ahead. I would still stay away from knots, and be smart about it.
So, yes, you are correct on it all.

find the BK5 pass around review - at least one person chopped up some oak, and batoned it.

however tough a knife it is, think on it as a leuko... it's not the heavy duty chopper in the line up. it's quite light for that job, so more than anything, you will work more. though i would also say it'll hold its own over a BK7 for MOST tasks that a 7 can do. beyond that, survival situation? i'd be glad to have the 5. camp? there are some jobs a chopper is made for.
