Question about the manix CTS-bd30P

I picked one up when the first came out, but it has been sitting in my knife case. I regularly rotate between my para2 and my manix2 in 154. I love both of them, but I am starting to lean away from s30v. I love the knife but I have a thing about having whatever is in my pocket being shaving sharp. I kinda feel like the 154 keeps that sharpness longer. Since I haven't used the cts-bd30p manix I am not quite sure how well it will keep that level of sharpness. I have been keeping it in the knife case and not using it do to the limited nature of the knife, but it almost seems kinda silly to me. I know the cts has similar edge retention to s30v, but my main question is does it keep that hair popping edge longer. Anyone who uses theirs please let me know what you think.

No, CTS BD30P is a PM steel. Like all PM steels, it's forte is retention of a good cutting edge for a long time, not retaining a razor edge.

I use my Manix2 in CTS-BD30P often and love the thing. It does what I need my large knife to do, which is keep cutting. I realize that my needs are not the same as everyone else's.

You might try picking up a Manix2 in BD-1. That should be superior to 154CM in maintaining a razor edge.

I do prefer S30V to 154CM, sharpening is not an issue. I will say that in my experience S30V (in Spyderco knives) holds an edge that can do every type of cutting cleanly and efficiently that I need. This includes cutting 2x4 holes in drywll to install coax, data, & voice outlets. Furthermore, even S90V, ELMAX, and M390 will lose a shaving sharp edge with some use (any knife gets dull with some use).

I would guess that having an S30V blade hardened to something like 61Rc might help, but then again brittleness becomes an issue. I really do like the BD30P Manix2, though. I'd love a Military in that steel.
I agree with Knarfeng suggeting the BD-1 steel, it is very promising and the mule knives I've bought and used have dne reasonably well for the amount of use they've seen.

Thanks for the input guys. I will probably keep the manix in the case for now, and keep using my para2 :)
