I have noticed that the DLC coated Szabo has an "enhanced" closing mechanism. Can anyone from Spyderco explain what they did. Will it make the Szabo easier to open and close.I love the Szabo knife but highly dislike the self closing mechanism. I hope it might be retrofitted to the existing Szabo's as well.

I don't think the black coated Szabo's self-close is any different from the satin finished version, they are just stating that the feature is an "enhancement" (opposed to not having a self-close at all).

Notice at the end of the paragraph it says that all of these features are the same as the original version (i.e., only the scales and handle color have changed).f

The black version and the current version are mechanically the same. The enhanced mechanism is the purpose-designed self-close mechanism that differentiates it from a standard Compression Lock with a ball bearing detent. Due to the length and mass of the Szabo's blade, Spyderco felt that this feature was necessary to keep the blade safely closed in the pocket in all carry positions.

More information on this is available on the thread on the same topic on Spyderco's home forum.

Stay safe,

Mike
