My father has a Pro Hunter 171UH that I believe is from the early 90s. It is in a dark brown box with velvet lining. The blade is stamped SCHRADE U.S.A 171UH toward the hilt and SCHRADE SUPER SHARP on the edge. Serial number is 94942. The sheath is lighter brown leather with brass snaps and has the stone in the pocket. The whole set is mint, never used. Can someone help with info and value of this knife?

Thanks!

Welcome to our forum, and sorry this post got missed! We have another thread going right now discussion this knife:

You have a great knife there, with all the packaging and all. Prices have come down on these over the last few months, but I am guessing around $100, maybe $150 if it is the 'birds head pommel' model. What do you other guys think?

I paid $137.00 about amonth ago for the latter style 171UH Pro Hunter, knife is mint although the box is not, which if your knife is from the 90's would seem to be the latter style. please let us know what type of pommel is on your knife, of course I think that the early version with birds head pommel version, could fetch even more than $150.00 mint in box with paperwork.

the other thing with the 171UH I bought, it has an etched tang stamp instead of being stamped, which I had never heard of, I E-mailed Codger When this site was down last month, he is also a forum member, who put my mind at rest, with regard to the credibility of the etched blade, Codger if you can find the e-mail can you post it please.

..maybe you can help me, recently received a Schrade 171UH last available style, the tang stamp has been laser etched, have you ever seen this done? It is etched SCHRADE over USA 171UH with SCHRADE super sharp On the lower section of the blade, which is usually etched anyway, serial number 84538. Would have posted the request on Blade forums but the site seems to be down, hope you can answer the request

regards.........Russell

Schrade held back a percent of production to meet warranty requirements for their own brand sales. Also a smaller number were held back for SFO warranty. Usually these knives had no tangstamps, since the piece might be needed for Sears, Wards, or whoever. When the warranty obligations had been met for the SFO knives, Schrade would etch their own marks on the blank blades and use the remainder for their own warranty, or to sell thru their factory store as seconds to employees. I have a 15OT that is just this way, and there is currently a 171UH on eBay with no tangstamp. They are nice oddities to add to the collections. BTW, they could not add the stamps after the knife was finished and assembled, so etching was the only alternative. Hope this helps....Codger

Lightning fast Codger, thanks very much, My copy was on my work e-mail and I would not be able to access that until the middle of the week, Thanks again.

Thank you for the info! The knife my father has does not have the bird on the end of the hilt, it is a a flat brass piece.
