Question about the SOG Pentagon Elite Folders

Today at a gun show I was handling both the larger (5") model and the smaller (4") model and I noticed that the smaller knife's edge touches the inside, much like a Cold Steel Voyager for example.

Here are the knives in question:

(The gun show fella and his wife wanted $109 and $105 by the way)

Now, in my opinion a quality knife should not do this.

Question:

1) Was this a flaw in one single knife that missed the QA at SOG or is a hit or miss trend?

Thanks.

P.S. the locks were really smooth, *cough* much like the Axis Lock *cough*

My SOG PE (I have the smaller one) does not do that. In fact, I really like the build quality of the knife. Tang stamped Seki Japan. And yes, the Arc Lock is very smooth.

As to the price, I guess you know now that you can get them for >much< less than that gun show price. From reputable dealers.

When locked, the blade of my Pentagon Elite II does not touch the handle. After short use my knife developed some blade play. This can be fixed easily by tightening the lock-screw but will return soon. Although the lock is very smooth in general I find this annoying.

If I had to pay $109 for the knife, I'd rather throw in some more cash and buy a Cuda Maxx Bowie. I prefer my Mxx Bowie to my Pentagon Elite II in nearly every aspect.

Yes, I don't think anyone would want to be seriously comparing a Maxx to a SOG PE. But the PE at street price I think is a pretty good deal. One aspect is that at 3.9", you can carry it in places where the legal limit is 4". And there are few knives that bring you so close to the 4" limit without hitting it.
Some others were the AFCK, TSEK, and earlier Enduras.

I am sorry for being unclear. I was referring to the closed position and the edge resting on the plastic. Possibly insignificant as to the edge retention, but visually annoying. :)
