Question about the stop pin and the Arc-Lock on SOG Knives

Hey folks,

I have a couple questions.

Do SOG Knives have stop pins? I ask because I saw "cutlerylover" take apart a SOG Trident on YouTube and it appears that the blade stops against the FRN handle. Is this the case?

Also, does the Arc-Lock operate the same in the Trident as it does in other knives?

Thanks! :)

Do any mods think this would be better suited to the General forum? I'm just thinking that there may be lots of folks that own SOG that don't ever look in this forum.

Please move this if you think it's OK to do.

Well, I can answer one question for you. My Visionary ll has a nice stop pin and it is mounted in and supported by the steel liners.

Sorry, I cannot answer your other questions.

I believe the Trident folder does have a stop pin, but it is recessed into the FRN so that you cannot see it.... similar to the Flash series.

If those assisted openers stopped on the zytel handle rather than a pin, I think they would tear up really quick.

The trident does not have an arc-lock however some websites advertising seem to deliberately attempt to give buyers the impression that it does by including a general commentary of SOG knives that happens to focus on the arc-lock.

I wish they would stop doing this

First the arc-lock appears through both sides of the handle the arc-lock look alike is on only one side. The arc-lock is also located more toward the front under below and closer to the pivot pin. The other lock is closer to the center of the knife.

The locking mechanism on the arc-lock look alike reminds me of the lock on the cold steel pocket bushman but with a much weaker spring and activated by that lever that looks similar to the arc-lock.

If the body of the knife were made of a strong metal the look alike arc-lock would make one hell of a strong lock as well but I have reservations about using zytel as it's backing

I would suggest stainless steel liners and thick pins to back the sliding lock bar on the trident, then it would be top quality.

I have handled the new access card 2.0 it does have an arc-lock but it is a mini version of it with the lock stud on one side only it is nowhere near as strong as the one on my tomcat III (which is one hell of a knife) however it is strong enough and for it's purpose, a flat, small, low profile folder thin enough to clip on a wallet it is quite adequate. So no I not all arc-locks are the same.
