Question about the Strider Folders

I notice that they all have large choils on the blade and relatively short handles (compared to the size of the choil on the handle). Are you supposed to hold the knife with your index finger in the blade choil or is that just for choking up on the blades?

Even when you don't use the finger choil the handle is still a good size. I think the SNG is the smallest folder in their range and it fits my medium hand very well, either without the finger choil or choked up with it.
