Hey guys, so I just got my Sebenza 25 large with micarta inlays and a Zaan, I adjusted both pivots and applied the loc tite it came with, but the Zaan is really hard to open no matter how loose is the pivot, I disassembled it and was full of grease so I cleaned it and applied some frog lube, it got better, but the Zaan wont open that easy, the 25 is just perfect, my finger hurts from opening and closing all afternoon, aany recommendations?

The Zaan has a totally different opening technique than any Sebenza (that's why it even includes instructions). Follow them and practice and you'll be OK.

Follow the handle chamfer all the way up. To put it simply, instead of pushing out, push up. The detent is extremely strong and will require some break in time and practice.

+1 with all this. I had a difficult time opening my Zaan at first. It took me a while to warm up to it and learn its opening technique. I was even going to return it due to my awkwardness in opening it. Now it is my favorite CRK so far. Also, my Zaan is my smoothest-opening CRK.

I think this thread is gonna' spell the end of the one week reign a bowie XM18 has enjoyed in my RFP - time for some Zaanto love.

it will take awhile to get used to opening a zaan, but with practise, you will get the hang of it. Mine is getting its fair share of edc time.

The Umumzaan will teach you patience and will make your thumb stronger.

I just about cursed mine and then one day it just worked. If it isn't working for you just put it down and come back to it at a later time, that's what I did and now it's so addicting. Have fun.

+1 on this.

I carry my Zaan every day for work and use it daily. Just put it in your pocket. Play with the Zaan, use it, build your dexterity and proficiency with it. No other knife like it. "Umnumzaan" is Zulu for "Head of the family" and is a very appropriate name for this excellent CRK.

Two factors for 'zaan deployment: Make sure that 1) you're pushing the thumb stud straight ahead toward the end of the knife and that 2) you're NOT putting side pressure on the lock bar. It's really easy to unintentionally press on the pocket clip/lockbar and make too much friction on the detent.
Do these two things and a 'zaan fires like a switch blade; right or left handed! :)

Spot on. Well said, indeed. I can open my Zaan just like a side-firing auto, for sure. It's FAST!

I had to learn both of these points, particularly your second point. I was putting pressure on the lockbar when both opening and closing my Zaan. Once I learned to only use my pinkie and ring finger to put pressure below the flex indent part of the lock bar, opening and closing works perfectly.
