Can someone explain why many factory bevels are really narrow (almost cant see them) compared to the 1/16 or 1/32 inch or so wide bevel that results when I put a 30 degree edge on a knife?
I hope that’s clear. What I mean is that I have purchased a few new pocket knives and they are reasonably sharp (shaving sharp) and the bevels are minuscule. Almost imperceptible to the naked eye. When I sharpen those knives to a reasonably usable angle (30 degrees +/- few degrees), I end up with a really pretty bevel that is much wider than the factory edge.
I guess my question is how are these factory edges done? Are they a much steeper angle?
Thanks in advance.
