I have this Mann Egde that I want to work on but was questioning the eye? What do you think? Is it usable/ was it meant to be this way?

Looks to me like typical banging on top of eyer with hammer has compacted the wall of the eye and created a ridge at the top of eye.

You could heat and bang it out correct(mash the ridge flat) if you have a small tongue on your anvil or do like I do and use a file to remove the ridge inside the eye until walls are uniform again.

Top should be bigger than the bottom. But since it isn't I would probably not worry about it. Might be wise to leave some extra haft sticking out the top of the eye.

So long as the top is larger than the center you should be alright. But definitely leave some extra haft sticking out as garry3 suggested.

yes in case you need to put a cross weddge too,it's usefull to know the technique to drive one without unhaft . punch a cross line expres kerf with a cold chisel (for metal use) and drive a hardwood cross wedge thin to the edge (almost cutting) much thicker of course on the other side.
i use to glue it with tite bond for exterior, and trim it a bit higher than the haft to drive it a bit more when shorten,if not going further i cut it to size wait a bit, linseed oil and have a go...

a field expedient i use in the shed too

a bit crude to you all?

ps a picture without the ruler would have helped
