Here is a 4 pin lb7 allegedly number 998999 it was for sale on ebay yesterday?

Were there around 1000,000 4 pin Schrade LB7s made?? Some may remmember a few years ago the 1000,000th Schrade LB7 made sold for well over $600 US on ebay. I am almost certain it was one of the more common variety of the later 3 pin Schrades. This one below is a 4 pin. Does this mean that there were close to 1000,000 of the 4 pin LB7s also. Were there that many made?

If link doesnt work try 350030457810

Highest all numeric would be six places, 999999. I have recorded serial number 914569 (and now your 998999). Thus the first million knives had no alphas. This point was reached some time in 1980. A total of 1,106,906 LB7's had been produced by the end of that year.

When the single alphas were added, the serials still kept to six places max, so only 99,999 knives were made of each alpha. Lowest alpha recorded so far is A25594.

When the rotation went to double alphas, the serials went to seven places. I've recorded BB62076 as the highest double alpha. Some time after this, the serialization ended. I have #BB62076 in my collection. It is a three pin and the stamping is SCHRADE+/ U.S.A. LB7. The pins went from four in the cover to three in the cover around serial #N35001. The Uncle Henry Signature appeared around serial #X29369. As you can see, the further you get from the start date, the muddier the water becomes.

Thanks Michael I appreciate the info, I wish i had purchased it now on a hunch, didnt want before I checked with you.

Where does a four pin LB7 with no serial number fit in? It has the Schrade+ U.S.A LB7 stamp.

You want me to guess? Then using logic, the unserialized earlier knives were replacements for loss and failure warranties. How's that for a guess?

Now you tell me something. Why does one of my four pin LB-7s have the tangstamp

SCHRADE
U.S.A. LB-7

?????

I would have to concur on your guess. My guess would be that your Schrade U.S.A. LB-7 was made before they started using the Schrade+ designation for stainless steel.
