Question about titanium

My other post about the divot colors might have sounded a little screwball. Seriously, though, what's the deal with the titanium on the SnGs? This is the first titanium anything I have ever owned, and the colors in the divots are really nice. Is titanium normally this way? Or this titanium layered in some manner? I used to titanium was just a simple silver/gray metal; but apparently I was wrong.

Mick would really be the man to answer your question, of course, but I'll take a crack at it.

It looks like the Ti was bead blasted then given the Tiger Stripe (TS) with a torch. It also appears that some of the Ti slabs had the dimples machined before they were bead blasted and some were after.

Ad, if I had to take a guess, the reason that your dimples look blue is that they were machined after bead blasting. Because the Ti in the dimples was raw when torched, it changes to a more brilliant blue and gold than that of the bead blasted Ti. I've seen one just like yours. The pocket clip has a very tight TS, but the slab has large swaths of blues and golds. I think it's visually very striking and better matches the wide TS pattern on the blade.

We have a winner!!!
We blast them, then apply the strips with a little contaminant and some heat.

We use WD40 as a contaminant.

Thanks for the replies, gentlemen.:) This color pattern is very beautiful.
