Hi
I'm trying to find the right language for this detail so i can do more research
I've seen a technique where a second piece of metal is wrapped around tsuba to form the rim. The example I saw was a ring of copper being wrapped around an iron tsuba and then hammered to form it around the ring
Can anyone help with the terminology on this?
Thanks

The rim of all tsuba is the "mimi" or ear.

The name of the added ornamental ring you are referring to is "Fukurin". Fukurin translates to ring shaped covering or encasement. They can also be seen on the hitsuana in some examples. Often they were added to simply enhance the asthetics, and other times they were added after altering the size of the tsuba. In the latter, it covered the new work.
