I am looking at a little United Boker half congress with Christmas tree handle scales and blade etched Seasons Greetings. I believe these were from the late 1980's early 1990's???. Anyway I am a little leery about celluloid: Were Boker Christmas tree scales celluloid? Are they fairly stable or do they have the same issues breaking down as other German celluloid from that era? I generally prefer bone scales but it is a nice little knife. Were the blades carbon or stainless?
Update; I think I answered my own question. I looked around on line and ebay and saw several that are showing signs of the celluloid degrading. Dark discolored handle pins, some freckling on the blades and discolored liners.
I passed on this congress, it's not worth the chance to me and they want to much to consider pulling the scales and re-handling. I am glad I did because I was able to get one with Green jigged bone scales instead.
Thanks
