Question about Universal Angled Clamps for Hapstone R2

I purchased these for my Toohr #3. In a way I have buyers remorse because I should have paid up for Premium stones instead I got the Hapstone Start CBN stones set with one 2000 grit Hapstone Premium CBN.

Anyway, I'm please with the Toohr. I took a solid brass bar and clamped it. I zeroed my Angle gauge on the stone holder and then flipped the clamps 360 degrees and all's well. The gauge measured 0.

But getting to my question. The hex screws in the attached image. As I understand it, they are meant to adjust the clamps if/when my above test shows a deviation. Y/N? And if so, how? It appears if I screw them down all they would do is to spread the clamp open.

Anyone have any info on their use?

No, those screws are to adjust the angle of the tips of the clamps to better grip onto blades. If you have say a FFG blade like a Spyderco you would tighten the front screw until the clamps are close to tightening up, then start tightening the back screw. This spreads out the back and pinches the front. You adjust as necessary to closely match the angle of the blade grind for the best hold. This also prevents the blade tipping from side to side while clamped.

You use the spring screws to adjust for deviation. Different sharpener, but the process is the same.

I would never had figured this out by myself. I'm surprised Hapstone doesn't have any instructions or videos about these clamps. The TSPROF channel is very instructive. Thanks for that link as well.

You are welcome. Tsprof has a larger social media presence so they have gone through most of the stuff. There were a few videos by Hapstone users but they were not as good or clearly explained as the Tsprof video.

Thanks to the folks at forum for helping out. Our team is already working on the so-called "tutorial."
If you have any questions you can always contact us.

Have a great day!
