I just bought a used zt0301 and its in great condition, I doubt the previous owner ever used it. The problem is that when the blade is deployed there is a slight rattling sound. I don't have any experience with Kershaw knives so I don't know if something inside is broken or if the noise is normal.

It could be the torsion bar from the assist mechanism, when the blade is out the pressure is off the bar letting it go loose. I noticed the same rattle on my 0350ts and when I de-assisted it the sound went away.

Every assisted Zt I bought had white lithium grease on the torsion bar so I would disassemble the knife, add a little to it and you'll be good to go.

Not broken, as mentioned it is simply the torsion bar that has come a bit loose. If you are comfy opening up the knife, all you need to do is put a small dab of high temp grease in the milled portion where the bar is located. Use high temp grease from an auto part store. If you use regular grease (low temp) it will create an oily mess, ruining clothing and anything else it contacts.

Wish I had known the high temp grease only thing the first time I tried this. Having oil leak from your pocket is less attractive to women than you might think.
