Question about Zulu trios

I know that the Zulu trio consists of a large Sebenza, a small Sebenza, and an Umfaan.

Are there any other unofficial rules as to what constitutes a Zulu trio?

I currently have a small "Solar Wind" Sebenza, and a 2000 model Umfaan. So I'm wondering if I can just go with a plain regular Sebenza to round out the trio, or if I need to get a decorated?

Thanks for indulging me in my shallow questions :),

Hi Matthew,
Your thread brought back many fond memories! I was perusing some of the forums on BF that I haven't been on in awhile a couple of days ago and this forum was one of them. I used to have a few Sebenzas years ago, (1998-99), and was a regular contributor when the Reeves first came aboard here on BF. We were all giddy in those days about the Sebenzas, (as you folks are now).

I first coined the phrase "The Holy Trinity" as it was my goal in life to own all three of the models available, the large and small Sebenza and the Umfaan. At that time, CR was having a heck of a time keeping up with demand, (as I'm sure they STILL are), but you NEVER saw a new or even a used example on the "Exchange" forums.

A friend at that time named Bill McWilliams and also, one of the first regular contributors to this forum, liked my "Holy Trinity" nomenclature but he renamed them the "Zulu Trio". The name has stuck to this day.

I would say that ANY variation of the Sebenzas, (wood inlays or not), would STILL apply if you have all three sizes! Just my opinion. :)

Gene, you must have been reading my mind. I was just wondering last night about how the "Zulu Trio" nomenclature came to be. Thanks for that interesting bit of history!

Perhaps we should add this to the FAQ?

IIRC, the "Zulu Trio" was also referred to if you had the plain scale Sebenza, Small Sebenza and the Umfaan. Since the runs of plain scale Umfaan's were done less frequently than the decorated, its was something of an achievement.

Matthew,
You're very welcome. I also am always interested how things come about.

Architect,
Good point. My "Zulo Trio" back in those days included the "Zig-Zag" patterned Umfaan. But again, ANY varition of the three was hugely desirable and I guess, even so today! :)

Now that I know what to call my collection of Sebenzas, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what to call the full collection of all four Kathathu knives?

The Zulu Trio or Z3;)consists of any three size knives, but it's nice if they match. :)

Sweet, exactly the photo I was looking for :D

RGRAY; Are those three all plain regular ?

If that is the case could i be a bit cheeky, and ask for a couple of comparative photos of the large and the small model from different angles (if its no trouble)?

Cheers
