Question AD20 scale swap

Hi everyone,

I managed to get my hands on an AD20 Whale Shark in Magnacut with G10 scales. My collection also includes an AD20S Kopis with textured titanium scales. Would it be possible to remove the scales from the AD20S and install them on the AD20? If so, would also change the washers?
Thanx for any advice 👍🏼

I’ve talked with Demkos customer service about parts and I don’t think they would recommend it as minor differences in stack tolerances could create issues. I’d recommend emailing and asking them for a definitive answer. They are great.

Thank you very much for the reply. What you wrote makes sense, i considered the same. Regarding contacting Demko i made a very negative experience doing that.I own 3 AD20 and 2 AD20.5. All original and well maintained. Once i took my Kopis model apart for cleaning and lost the shark lock. It disappeared from my desk and was not seen again. I told myself thats surely solvable and contacted Demko‘s support email. I was brushed off with one email, sorry we don’t sell shark locks. I had to find a friend who cnc machined me a new one. And that’s not very good customer service in my opinion. But still i love their knives. Just wish there service is a little better.

This is stunning to read because Demko has one of the best customer service programs that I have ever encountered! Did you explain to them what happened to your Shark Lock? The Shark Lock is mated to the blade so it is true that they don't sell locks separately but I can't imagine that they didn't ask you to send the whole knife in for repair?? As far as scale swaps, They are super easy to swap so I would give it a try! Sometimes you need to add a .005" hardened washer to the pivots to take up any minor tolerance differences but they should be interchangeable. I have a hand scribed Cruwear AD20 with OG scales running 6 washers plus Skiff bearings and she's smooth and locks up like a bank vault! The early Cruwear blades had a narrower blade tang and need to be shimmed. The main thing is to always keep your lock and blade together!

Thats interesting. They have always been kind and willing to help in my experience. I’ve had to send in knives with issues and they always took care of me.

There are zero issues doing what you ask. I have multiple AD20 & AD20s models; full Ti & G10. I've swapped parts back and forth, between all of them. There are NO differences between the scales of an AD20 compared with an AD20S. Obviously, the pins, standoffs and pivot are different; but the scales are identical. So, change them up!

Edit: Obviously, yes, the steel washers need to move with the Ti scales, to whichever knife you choose. The G10 already has the steel liners; hence, no washers and none needed.
