Hey guy,

I was looking some Helle knives. As you may know, the newer knives are laminated steel. Some guy said that he bought a Helle Eggen and took it out. As he was batoning a very small piece of wood to start a fire, the knife broke in half. This sounds like a bad heat treat. Does anyone have experience with Helle knives being brittle or is this a one of?

God Bless

As I recall, my Helle came with an instruction booklet that specified not to use it for prying. So in a sense they are brittle, but used for cutting, they are very sharp and make good knives.

Usually they will bend before they break, due to the softer/tougher laminate. Used as intended -- for cutting -- Helle blades will perform very well.

My Futura will bend rather easily where the blade meets the handle. Not brittle though.

Mine is not brittle, Doesnt bend easily eather. Very simular to other scandis in this aspects. Batoning them with a prach of wood would ge exelent.
