Hello to all...

My Trident folder has the TiNi coated black.

What type of differences exist between tini and tungsten coating? Thanks in advance to those kind enough to help further my blade education.

TiNi coating is Titanium Nitride, whereas Tungsten, as the name implies usually uses tungsten carbide.
More frequently in knives Tungsten DLC (Diamond-Like carbon is used).
I have a BG-42 Field knife coated by Bodycote.
I hope this helps as a start...???:confused::)

Much obliged Bobby. Do you have an opinion as to which is superior? Thinking of a couple of options EDC knives and saw that DLC on a blade I was considering, and was wondering how it compared to that TiNi coating on my SOG. Again, thanks for your kind reply.

For the most part on SOGs it's cosmetic, since the steel doesn't need protection - usually.
Both are similar in terms of what we are likely to use them for - black blades are cool!
My DLC is on a satin blade and looks like a bit like black chrome. The TiNi ones I've had were duller and non reflective.
Personal taste. I'd buy based on the knife, not the coating... especially since I don't know which knives...:D

I always found Teflon to be the best non-reflective knife coating. Plus, I'm sure the fact that it's a superior lubricant probably helps with penetration.

Thanks for the responses, both of you. I decided to hold off on a new one for now. Maybe in a couple of months. As for the ones I were considering, I was thinking about another SOG, but this time in the tanto blade, or the kershaw leek, or maybe a mini x-ray. All appealing to me for different reasons. Was kinda actually leaning toward the leek, black, but I can't financially afford a mistake so I wanna be sure. Thanks again for your feedback. Was looking for something to tip the scales in the decision making process. mahalo.
