Question Bout Axis Lock Assisted Knives

For those of you who own a Benchmade Axis Lock assisted opening
knife, I was wondering if when you pull the Axis lock back does the
blade come out and open (ie without thumb tension or pushing the
blade out)? Or do you have to use thumb tension in
order for the A/O mechanism to work?

I don't have an Axis assisted opening, but I know that Benchmade's Auto-Axis knives work by pulling the Axis slide back to release the blade. Knowing this, you must have to use the thumb stud otherwise there is no point in coming up with a new name for the same mechanism (which would also be considered an auto vs. an assisted). Hope this makes sense.

That's what I figured, but I just wondered how it worked.
I guess there is a secondary stop mechanism beyond the
axis lock tension holding the knife in. Also wondered bout
the safety cause my axis lock opens super easy without a
lot of force.

Ya, you have to use the thumb stud to open the knife. As soon as you apply a certain amount of pressure, the spring takes over and opens the blade. Pulling the Axis lock down by itself will do nothing to open the knife.

Also, I have not had any problems with the blade opening on its own. Besides, many of the Axis AO kines (maybe all, not sure), come with locks which lock the blade open and/or closed, if its a concern.

I've got a Barrage. And while bringing back the axis lock won't cause the blade to fly open, a little snap of the wrist and it comes open quickly.

Course, an unassisted axis lock will do the same thing.
