Question 'bout Black BM handles?

I searched, I promise, but I kept coming up with the error saying my search criteria is too few words, etc.

So...

Will the black last? I mean, does it chip off or fade or anything? I didn't know they could make black titanium. I'm torn between getting a 43 or 47 in black or titanium. I know anodized is out, so its either of those two.

Hows the grip? If I accidentally drop the knife and ding it, is the metal silver under the black? How's the weight? More or less than the titanium?

I think that's it. If I have more, I'll post.

Yes, unfortunately it chips pretty bad around the latch area and on edges that make contact with hard areas. Mine has many chips all over.

Yah my black 42 has dings around the latch are too. As for the grip it is better than flat Ti. It has sort of an orangepeel texture almost like the texture of Clays kydex sheaths.

Where the latch rubs, it's gonna wear off quickly. That's expect. Heck, even the titanium wears in this area. Chipping will happen if you hit it hard. But, let me say this: I'd love to get my car powder coated with that stuff since I think it's more durable than automotive finishes.

Here's one previous thread on the Black handles, like every other thread, it's gets off-topic ;):

My experiences is as with the others. Chipped along the latch area, and the area where the latch hits the safe handles when you don't want it to. The wear wasn't as drastic as I expected. The powder coating is holding up well in the heavy contact areas.

Has anyone else noticed that BM's website has no mentioning of a BLK model in any of the new Ti series?

Tony, does this mean my pristine condition 42blk w/12c27 blade is worth more than I paid for it some months back? I could be a 'collector', and not even know it!

I chose the blk, not only because I liked the looks of it, but because the handles are much less prone to become slippery. I do like the feel of it very much compared to the noncoated ones I've handled.

That's too bad. I guess I'll stick with the standard finish then.

Damn skippy! I'm sticking with plain 'ol titanium!

Oh yeah. One last thing. How is it that Tony can find all the threads in the world from posts 6 months ago, and I can't even do a search for "BM47blk"? Curious?

You know, I've been wondering the same thing. Suspisious... ;)
Maybe he reads'em until he knows them without script, and then he's know the excact word to search for. :p

Geeeeesh.., you guys haven't figured out how Tony instantly finds all these previous posts with the same "search" procedures we tediously use?????

Neither have I...lol

I do have a "working hypothesis" though...

Ok.., so Dudley runs all this ultra-super-band width 10 gig per second Lazer-Driven-high-speed stuff.., and through "Lazer-Bat-Blade" collaborative efforts overseen by Dudley.., Tony has covertly created an indexed database for every post we make, creating a virtual "Click & Go" methodology directing us to all the buffoonery we've posted. :)

Heck..., if we are going to be the Forum that RULES.., we must have a "Conspiracy Theory"..??? It is not only a pop-culture phemomena that is "hip".., but also makes us more ELITE and sort of mysterious related to our comrades on other Forums.

Actually I think Tony just has a good memory...lol, but my theory is far superior to reality, and also more fun.., so now I have to think of a "Bumper Sticker" and post it on the thread I just saw about that. :)

How about ~~> -Lazer-Bat-Blades- ~~> [Nice graphic of Balisong] Think Once..., Cut Lots!

Sorry for straying into humor.., but it's fun to be convoluted and off-topic..., think of silly Bali-Bumper Stickers.., and in my State (California).., I can't have a sticker with the word "Balisong" in it simply because I don't want to be searched four times a day.

First of all, I have to admit that I don't get your bali bumper sticker... Think once (??), cut lots... Does it mean that you have to be careful, because you can easilly get cut? If so, why think ONCE? (Sorry, my IQ must be low... ;))

For the second paragraph (is that what it's called?), balis are illegal in .no too, but they can search me all they want, I'll just laugh, and then sue them for sexual harrasment (sp?)! ;) I'll be proud to wear what I fight for.

I just recieved 6 very nice t shirts from balisong.com today too! :D Too bad I only ordered ONE of each... I should've gotten 2: 1 to wear, 1 to collect. I'll do it in the next batch. :)

No... Pete edited his post and removed the Chris Reeves reference. Reeve's logo is "Think twice, cut once", which is a play off the old carpenter's rule of "measure twice, cut once".

I suspect the "cuts lots" has to do with the amount of cuts you inflict upon yourself when you commit ("Think once") to the balisong. ;)

So here's another question about black handles. How do Tachyon handles hold up since they're black titanium also? Are they coated? Do they chip and show regular titanium under that sleek black?

Also, I saw an ad in "Blade" magazine and it had pictures of two tachyons with different blades. One was the one I'm used to seeing, and the other had a double edged blade. Any info on this?

The handles are Ti. It's the same part as used in the non-black models. The black is a powder coating on the surface. You can read about powder coating in the review on my site.

As for alternate blades for Tachyon, the double-edged dagger based on the Microtech Nemesis is not available yet. It's planned for the not-to-distant future.

Is that the result of the project that the first 100 tachyons where hold back for?

I believe the handles on the Tachyon are bead blast, not powder coated, so it won't chip off.
