Question, Ca concealed fixed blade.

As far as legality, it does not look concealed to me. I spoke to a rep from a large Ca knife manufacturer at a show and he told me he carries a full size katana while walking his dogs in Ventura. If so, I would think you will be fine.

I dont show my blades at all.

If asked about weapons I try to respond with "No, but I carry a pocket-knife". It depends on whether the "young-gun" will let you respond or not.

If it is in my stuff and not accessible within seconds, I won't even mention it. But I also decline searches at all times now.

If you are walking in public with that thing showing on the side like that, you would be drawing unnecessary attention to yourself IMO.

I am in LA county, your location could make a huge difference. Attitude and officer discretion play the largest factor in what happens to you.

Doesn't look concealed from what the pictures show. Your fine.

From the way it's placed I would be worried it would fall out though.

Our opinions don't matter. Only the cops in your local area can say if that's concealed or not.

Concealed usually means upon your body or clothing. You can explain your situation as "transport" and therefore not readily accessible.
I live in Ventura, CA

I'm in Chico CA myself. So in a backpack, completely concealed and not readily accessible would be ok for "transportation?" If so I should just go back to throwing it in the small pocket of my backpack. I was told by a friend that it would be considered concealed and would be a felony. So to CMA I came up with this. It's still pretty low key and the general public around here isn't too bright so I doubt people would notice, let alone care if they did. But general public isn't my concern though. I guess to really find out, I'll have to go down to my PD and ask them. I'll update this thread after I do. Thank for your input everyone!

Glad your checking. One final thought though (and your inquiry may confirm or dispell this): my best understand from reading court cases is the knife should be noticeable and recognizable to the general public. I admit I'd have a hard time making out your knife with the strap wrapped around it like that if I were not as well versed in blades as I am. There have been multiple cases were knives were not discernible by regular citizens, but noticed by cops, and this was ruled by the courts as "concealed." The reasoning was because the court considers cops to be "specially trained to spot weapons," whereas the laws against concealed weapons are meant to protect regular citizens from unknowingly being around armed individuals.

To the OP- I don't see how you have anything to gain by carrying that knife in such a manner, I see no benefits to it. By carrying it in such a manner I believe that you are taking the risk that a cop might consider it to be conceald (this is a major risk, going to jail can really suck and have a very negative impact on your life). I say, either carry it openly on your belt, which is legal depending on your local laws (city, county), or carry it inside your pack. Why take the unnecessary risk of leaving it up to a cop, and maybe a jury, to decide if it's conceald.

I've been openly carrying a fixed-blade hanging from my belt for over eight years in San Diego, and despite several cops seeing it none have ever hassled me about it.
