question: case barlows

i'm thinking of picking one up for my son for christmas, what do you guys think? Any recent case barlow purchases?
He's 12 and likes all the more modern liner locks, etc but he likes tradionals too so i figure barlow! Excellent knife for just about anything and well i just like the pattern. Hoping i can find one at the few case dealers i have local so we shall see! another thought why doesnt case offer the barlow in yeller with CV:D then again why dont they offer all of them in CV and yeller;)

Ivan if your son likes liner locks and a traditional look. Maybe you might look into a new Case Trapperlock in yellow handle material. I think the cost would be about the same.. Just a thought on my part...
 
Bought a non-knife addict a CASE 6.5 Bonestag last year,and he's delighted with it.Too bad that scale is getting harder to find.

I agree about the yellow handle option,it's CRIMINAL that it's not a available.The Trapperlock could be a good alternative but I'm not sure they're out yet?

Another thought is that Great Eastern released some Barlows in yellow handle this year, you might run one to earth.
 
I use to have a Case barlow. I liked that knife a lot. It was heavy , felt good. It was a nice rope cutter.
 
Smokey mountain has some Robeson barlows made by Queen that are really nice.The jigging is unique.

I have a case barlow in 154cm. I paid extra for the premium steel. The fit and finish is very nice. Over all you can't go wrong with case.
 
I picked up an appaloosa smooth bone Barlow that is very nice. I will try to find a picture from the sale thread.
 
The barlow pattern was the first knife my dad got me when I was a little tike:D. It's a good basic pattern for a first knife and Case would be a excellent maker for him. I have atleast 24 case knives and all of them have excellent fit and finish.

I'll let ya all know whatever i go with. Wanted to keep with case as we are doing a cash christmas (killing me not to shop on the web :() and there are a few dealers locally
