Question concerning Pivot

Does anybody know how the pivot with the bronze-/teflonwasher combo actually works? Does the blade turn between the teflonwashers? Do blade and teflonwashers turn between the bronzewashers? Do blade, teflon- and bronzewashers turn inside the G10 handle? Or is it a combination of all this?
I'm asking because I was wondering if the washers might dig into the G10 over time, especially if you tighten down the pivot screw (e.g. so you can't wristflick open the knife/ operate it one handed, which isn't allowed in some countries) because there seemed to be some black shavings on the side of the bronzewasher that touches the scales.

Nono it won't. Even if it does, it would be so so very minute that you won't see any difference in functionality nor in the looks. Do note that phosphor bronze is a soft material aswell, so it won't "dig" into the G10 much

The first thing i always do when i receive my new Cold Steel folders is to open the pivot and remove teflon washer. Luckily CS design allows for doing this easily without disassembling the whole knife.
The reason why i do this is that i have this OCD habit of tightening my pivot screw all the way down(i live in constant fear that my screw will come lose :o). When i do that, the paper thin teflon washer often get pinched, deformed and broke out of the pivot after some opening & closing, so might as well remove it.

From my experience the knives feel very rough after removing the teflons, especially considering how tight i made the pivots, however after a short while they all broke in and become very smooth. I would say it feels even smoother than the teflon washer as you do no feel the constant drag from the soft teflon. You can also put some nano oil in the pivot, this thing does magic.

In terms of wear, no it will not wear into the G-10 at all. Because the g-10 has so much friction, the bronze washers don't move at all, so all of the friction comes from the blade rubbing against the static bronze washers.

Personally i wouldn't recommend taking off the teflon washers just yet. The bronze washers are really thin and the teflon helps make up for some space. Taking it off might leave a gap and once assembled it might become rattlely and tightening the pivot screw will not eliminate the side to side play. Just from my experience but you could try

I think it's pretty safe to do so though. I have owned every single model of cold steel folders 4inch and under and have multiples for some of the more popular models. I've removed teflon washers for each of them and I haven't had any looseness issue. One good thing about cold steel that their tolerance isn't exacting so you can fine tune them however you want. The only potential issue you may have is that foreign the coated model, the lockbar is still using the thicker teflon coating making the lockbar slightly thicker and they may not go down fully when in closed position, causing the blade to feel loose under closed position. But this will not happen under open position and will wear in in time.
