This may seem random...but...
How often and for what tasks would you like to have a draw knife with you in the woods whether it be for bushcrafting, survival, etc?

Personally I use one for peeling lodgepole pines for tipi poles for Native American / Mtn Man Rendevous, Scouts, etc. I also use it for pine pole furniture for cabin's. I love them. I could probably use a hand held belt sander, but like the look they leave. Joe

a draw knife or using your knife as a draw knife helps you maintain a more consistent angle for a greater distance when shaving wood. It also helps to stave off fatigue when doing a lot of shaving since you are using your whole torso for the task.

What type of draw knife do you have in mind?

I'm not sure. I'm honestly not very familiar with them, and I've never used one. If you had a woods knife, say with a 8" or so blade, that was designed to be very comfortable to use in a "draw fashion" - would you find that a useful feature or not?

That makes sense. Do you have any examples of why you would do a lot of shaving while in the woods? (I'm not thinking of a shop tool)

draw knife got me into the shooting sports many years ago.. used it to rough out the stock for a T/C Hawken muzzle loader kit

I refurbish/re-haft alot of old axe/hatchet heads that I pick up. My Mora drawknife is the ideal tool for shaping new handles to often odd shaped axe head eyes. It's the main reason I bought it. As was said earlier, you can use your body weight and both hands for stabilization if you use a vice.--KV

the draw knife gets used lots on the studio. esp making selfbows. but in the woods i would agree with some other posters-a good decent size knife would work just about as well(esp if you are familiar with how to use a draw knife). cant imagine carrying a drawknife into the woods. unless i had something particular in mind, like roughing out a sapling bow.
