Question for 110 Dave (or anyone)

Does anyone have any info on this one? I think it's pretty cool and just had to have it. I did a search and found out that L.T. Ward and Bro. were wooden duck decoy carvers and their stuff is now quite collectable. I wonder if this is an Aurum etch. It has a date stamp from 1988. I really like the look of the "banner" on the scales. They appear to be bone, but who knows. I'm curious about who commissioned Buck to do these, this one is one of 250 made.

Good pictures when I get it.

This knife was made for Willey knives. Do a search, they still have the full set of three knive for sale today, one of the three has Ivory handles. Richard M posted that these were still avalible a few years ago.......when I saw that one Dave, i also had to have it. Wish I could aford the full set, just a little above my pay grade.

WOW! Thanks jb, I really want that set! The Blue Bill I bought is nice, but the other 110 (Workshop) puts it to shame. I think I'll contact them and see if the set's still available. Stay tuned.

JB...... :D

I just got back from looking at it and I was going to tell you that your helpful info just caused the PlumberD to spend $650.......

Then I saw his post.

:D

......not me. I put the blame on Richard, LOL. His post cost me some $$$$$. The scrim 110 & gold etch is very nice and worth every penny. Can't wait to see Dave's full set.

Seems to me I read something about the Wards being the class of the field in decoy making and then the Le or Sp was commissioned to honor them.

yes i have that knife ...
and have been to the mans house in MD ...
as i knew one of his nephews from hot roding shows
seen many of his works of art still in the house...
was verry impressed
house sits backed up to a small lake were he would watch and sketch ducks
on a dock in the water...

but no i dont know a lot of the knife it self ...
not off the top of my head any way..
there is one with out scrimshaw i believe..

this was in 1995 jest before i started officially collecting bucks

edit
some place i think i have the other knife but ....
it is not an scrimshawed M D ivory handle!
was told it was a art proof or prototype type blade
put in handle for customer approval of the knife
or some thing like that

The way quality duck decoys have shot up in value in the last few years, the knives may be a good investment, especially if eventually marketed at a decoy auction where people are used to paying in terms of multiple thousands. Looks like they are examples of Ward sketches.

And it never hurts to buy ivory.

:)

They still have three of the three knife sets available. I have to think this one over awhile. Since I already have the one coming, I really only want the Workshop 110 so do I really want to spend that much just to get one knife that I want???

Just think, I could buy four of the new Buck/Hoodlum "machetes" for less than that much!:barf:

Well, I've just sent them an e-mail back and I'm waiting to see if the price is negotiable. Stay tuned.

Well the Blade book lists the knives at 600, 250 and 75 individually with a date of 2004 on the valuation.

Even allowing for the usual book overestimation......that sounds pretty promising.

I'm surprised they're still sitting in the shop.

Here's the one I have... But it has a Canada Goose on the blade... There should be a Thread about it on here somewhere... The one I have, has Mastadon Ivory with NO Scrimshaw... I saw this one and had have it too... ITE

Great knife.

Must be one that was set aside because the slab wasn't suitable for the artwork.

Some lucky guy got a good price on it, I bet.

BG, alot of Mastadon Ivory comes that way... It's when water get in to the Ivory for million or so years... Leroy was telling me about it... I got this one from an ex-Buck employee... I like it with out the Scrimshaw... I don't think there work shop look that good Scrimshaw in to the handle... ITE

This is the one I want. It has the mastadon ivory scales. The full color scrimshaw just knocks me out. I'm in negotiations with them right now.
