Question for a Buck Representative: Kitchen Knives

I have always sharpened my precision leather-working knives and my Buck knives with bench stones. However, the kitchen is a different environment. For kitchen knives I've always used Wusthof knives and a Wusthof electric diamond sharpener, an older version of the one pictured at this link:

My question:

I am considering a purchase this year of a Buck kitchen cutlery set. How well would the Wusthof electric sharpener work on Buck's cutlery set? Would using the Wusthof sharpener on a Buck cutlery set void Buck's warranty?

Hello Wolf,
I can not say how well our cuterly will do with the Wusthof sharpener since I've never used one. Our warranty does state that using a "power driven grinding wheel" will void the warranty.
The reason is that most grinders take off a lot more metal than is necesary and therefor cuts down the life of the blade considerably. Like I said, I haven't ever used one of those though. Maybe it is no more agressive than a stone in which case it would be fine to use.
Lets assume that it isn't agressive at all, I would not void warranty service in that case. I do try to look at the "spirit of the law".
I hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. The grinder is not aggressive at all when used on the Wusthof knives' edge. The angle may be different on a Buck's edge, so it may take more metal off than if using a Wusthof blade.

I am looking forward to trying out Buck cutlery, so I may sometime try the Wusthof sharpener on a Buck kitchen knife just to see how it does. The idea of returning Buck cutlery for warranty service is most likely hypothetical anyway. :)
