Does Chris still make the occasional knife? Would he be prepared to take a commission?

Thanks!:)

He very rarely makes custom knives now and he is unlikely to take a commission - what do you have in mind? I would not be so presumptious as to give an outright "no" answer without knowing what you were after but I know him well enough to be able to say a strong "unlikely"! He generally does not make knives to other people's designs - he says he has so many designs of his own that he never gets to making!

For interest sake, here is a picture of a sole authorship piece that he made a while ago and that he showed at the Plaza Cutlery Show earlier this month. It is 19.75 inches overall and is made from Damasteel. The knife is called Freyja - and it sold for $6,000.

Thanks for the reply Anne! I was thinking more of a varient of a CRK like a handmade Large Sebi or perhaps a Kathulu in S30V/Damascus/damasteel with whatever exta's Chris would like to do. Basicly whatever Chris thinks is cool would be cool with me! If I have to wait 10 years for it to happen, that would be ok with me! It would also give me time to save up!

I would not presume to ask for a totally new design Anne. Thhanks for your time.:)

He is not willing to do special versions of either Sebenzas or one piece knives. If he were to do anything hand made, it would be an original design.

What I really had in mind was a double edged dagger type affair of about 7"-9".

I had in mind the double edged Randle model with perhaps the utility of the one piece handle as the first choice.

Basicly I want a double edged knife with strength and some utility ability. I don't think such a knife has ever been seen by me before. Double edged knives are often poor users due to inherent design limitations.

I want a double edged fighting knife that can also be used in the field. I would like the blade to have a full length fuller and small top and bottom guards. It would be great if the blade was able to be differentally heat tempered and made from Swedish Damasteel (12c27 and the ATS-34/BG-42 varient)

Sercond choice would be a 7"-9" traditional Tanto design with the above features and 'feel'

If possible I would like the hollow handle and one piece design if practical, but if not then that would be no problem.

These are after all just idea's and as ever I appreciate that you are at least talking to me about this.:) The time scale is in no way important to me, I really would like to own such a knife made by Chris, or to be honest any knife that Chris has made and just wants to get rid of! This is not a knife I would sell, it is just one of the things on my top ten things to attain before I die type of thing.

Some other things on that list-

Get a Degree in English (Done that!)
Get a proper Folded steel Katana made by a Japanese master (I wish!)
Get a hand forged welsh sword (I know of a man in Angelsy so this is closer than I thought to happening)
Go to the NY blade show in America and meet so Formites (who can then see I am not all bad!)
To get qualified as a teacher one day.

I won't bore anyone else with the others!
:)

Best,

Wayne
