Question for any Sebenza 25 owners

I just received a small sebenza 21, my first reeve knife and really like it. But, I am also wanting to buy either a large 21 or a 25. So far my eye has been mostly on the 25 and I have a couple of questions about it. I like the bushing system on the 21 so I was wondering how the 25 owners like the new pivot system, anything they like or dislike, comparisons between the old and new pivots. I was also wondering about the take down of the 25. I have looked EVERYWHERE for a take down video of the 25 and have not been able to find one. Someone mentioned that one side of the screw that holds the frame together closest to the pivot actually stays in place and cannot be removed from the lock side of the frame I believe he said. If this is true, does this bother anyone? Any comments on the new ceramic ball lock up? Sorry I've asked a lot questions, just trying to do my knife homework I guess. Anyways, thanks in advance for the replies guys, the Seb owners on here have always been stand up guys and that is much appreciated, especially someone like me that is new to the high end knife community.

There was a good photo essay posted here with the knife taken down, I am sure the poster will speak up and link it to you.

I have been very happy with the performance of both the new pivot and the ceramic ball lock interface. I think the ball is a much better solution than the screw on steel lock bar tip that a few other manufacturers have implemented, permanent and a lot less chance of failure.

Hi,

You can't go wrong with either the 21 or 25.
Just so you know, the pivot has been used on the Umnumzaan and the Ti lock for years, I don't think I've read a thread where someone who's used and maintained a knife with it has disliked it; although many prefer the bushing and its simplicity.
The ceramic ball interface has been on the Umnumzaan since day one, again, most who have used the knife have no complaints about it. I was a bit put off by it but after carrying an Umnum for a little more than 2 years as my edc I've grown to like it( I still prefer the lock up of the Sebenza more though ).
The ceramic ball of the 25 is larger than the Umnum and seems to give a better detent and has a very solid feel.

Espmet on YouTube, Blackend here on the forum has a takedown vid for the 25, ill try to post one soon. It's a breeze. The stop pin and standoff do remain on the non locking scale which I like even though I thought that I wouldn't.

Congrats on your first CRK, welcome to the addiction :D

If I were in your shoes I think I'd get a large 21 ( Insingo ) for the collection as the 25's are still a little tough to find and will most likely be in production for quite a while. On the other hand, the 25 is REALLY REALLY NICE and would make a great first large.

Happy shopping.

Thanks for the replies. The 25 is looking sweeter and sweeter. I actually found the post with the 25 take down pics. Very interesting set up. Some really neat features. So without the bushing system I'm assuming you need to use locktite to keep the pivot tightened. My question is this: what would be a good method for cleaning the old locktite off the pivot before applying the new locktite when taking the knife apart for cleaning?

I just clean mine off with a damp shop rag. Sometimes I'll use a damp q-tip. I'll dry it off after and when I reassemble I use a toothpick to put just a touch of the locktite on the last couple of threads. You don't need much at all so don't over do it. You will love the 25. It's a great knife and in my opinion Chris's masterpiece.

That doesn't sound too bad. I really like the simplicity of the bushing system but there is just something about the 25 that always keeps me coming back to it. It's the little changes from the 21 to the 25 that has really fine tuned the sebenza in my opinion.

You might not even need to use loctite on the 25.

It might just be my luck, but I tore mine down and cleaned it about a month after I got mine, and iso-alcoholed all the old loctite off and I did not reapply it, and it's been months and months and it has not even moved a mm.
