Question for Army (active or vet)

I just learned that my nephew is headed to the sand box for a while. I don't know what his MOS is, I do know that he was going to try out for the Rangers but that didn't happen. I was Navy so I don't have a good feel for what the leadership is like for what I suspect would be Infantry.

My questions is: would a regular infantryman be well served by a Vietnam Tac. Hawk? Would you guys guess that he would even be able to add it to his gear? Or would he receive grief from his superiors?

I've been trying to save for one for myself, but I only want one, he may need one.

Any help from ATC staff or anyone else that has "BTDT" would be much appreciated!

I am not a soldier, nor have I played one on TV.

But from News pic, both from the news itself and Andy's site. The VNTac seems to be "the perfered toy/tool of choice" at Camp Rhino, Afganistan. I don't know about camp Virginia,Kuwait.

To answer your question Yes an infantryman would be well served by a Vietnam Tactical. He would use it on a daily basis while in the field. I can think of numerous times where I could have used one and would have loved to have one. As for his superiors giving him grief most of them (well at least the ones with half a brain) more than likely already are carying one or something similar.

Hope this helps.

To anwser the question:
YES!
I have a Brend Hatchet with me now but wish I had bought a VN Tac with me...(for the added "mass!")
I am really happy with the Brend and may have a "custom" Brend style Hatchet made up for me out of ATS-34 (hummidity on ship makes the 1050 rust quick!) but that should stop as soon as we hit dirt...err...sand...:D

Get him the VN Tac...he will not be disappointed, and you will know you got him a great, hard use tool!

As for his officers and NCOs: if they were smart, they would have brought their own! (As an NCO, I wish MY Marines had one!)
