How comfortable is the handle during chopping? Does your pinki finger get sore on the birds beak?

Thanks, Nick.

I'm no old timer, but from scanning the posts for a while, I have read that was a problem for some with the straight handles, especially after prolonged chopping. I'd guess that was one of the things remedied with the Ergo handle. I'm sure some straight handle owners will chime in with their experiences. Pete

I have big hands...real big hands. I have been underwhelhmed with the Old school handled knives. Watched a ASH-1 get smoked by a smaller knife in chopping yesterday. I still like mine and can see its beauty and usefullness in other areas. Not a chopper though. Yes it eats my pinky finger.

Hi Justabuyer- just curious- what smaller knife smoked the ASH-1 in chopping? Was it a badger?

The ASH1 looks to be and should be a pretty good chopper. However, that is just not the case. I would say that it is a average to below average chopper for its weight and size. I think the biggest reason is because of the balance of the knife. It has nice geometry but the culprit is that it is neutral to handle heavy. When chopping vigorously I have the tendency to choke back pretty far on the handle and sometimes get bitten by the rear talon hole. The talon hole of the ASH1 comes straight down at a 90degre angle. I much prefer the rear talon hole on the Fusion handles because they are canted at an angle and has less chance of biting.

I think that the ASH1 is one of the most beautiful looking knives because of the line and looks of the straight handle and birds beak. The Straight Handles are also very comfortable to the hands so long as it is not used for hard chopping with the hands choked back.

I am not Justabuyer but I will give my 2cents anyway ;)

No it was not a badger. But I can tell you for sure that in my hands a BATACLE would outchop a ASH1. The Badger can be very weight forward when I choke way back on the TAC handle. The BATAC also have very nice comparable edge geometry for such a small thick knife.

Awesome. That's what I wanted to hear! I was wondering about the ASH-1's chopping abilities, it does look handle heavy. Though I'll be one of the first in line when it pops up for ordering. It LOOKS fantastic.

I can't wait for my BATACLE to show up! It's not the prettiest knife in the world, but I bet it'll be a heck of a user.

Reading this was eerie. It was like reading something I had written!! Which, I hope, will not offend Ban.

At any event, +1 for Ban's opinion. BTW, I have medium sized hands.

Thanks for the input guts, this is basically what I thought. I just love the handle on my MR it is perpect for me, pitty about the ASH1, I may just have to hold out till a SFNO comes my way..
