Question for audi owners?

I was thinking of getting my g/f a 2003 audi all road, but i know how import repairs can go. Id love to hear from audi owners about their repair bills.

I would suggest pricing a few parts. Even cars that don't break often can drop a transmission, especially in a 7 year old used car. Add alternators, starters, and radiators to the mix. ;)

Also, who will do the service if/when it breaks?

The good news is that the Euro is down so, parts might get a little cheaper if the bad economy continues.

Audis are good cars, but parts are high and people don't take care of them. Have a mechanic who knows VW/Audi check it over before you buy it.

I'm no expert on Audi but what I know is they are fantastic cars when in good condition. Parts that I've heard about being problems are mainly suspensions. They are great handling cars with complicated and expensive suspensions. If you intend to buy one used, have a mechanic check the front end thoroughly.

I got a factory pre-owned '08 A3 almost a year ago. The only problems so far were a bad ABS sensor and a piece of trim that came loose. Both were covered under warranty but I think they would have been about $100 to fix if need be.

+1 on having an Audi mechanic check it over thoroughly. My adventure was on a different make, but spending $150 saved me literally thousands.

My 2001 A6 has been a great car. I hit 125,000 miles a few weeks back, and so far it has had very few problems, regular maintenance is a must, and that can be a little on the pricey side, but it's a great car.

One of my partners has an older (10 years) A4. It has been a fantastic car. Looks and drives almost brand new with almost 200,000 miles on it. That being said, I'd be worried about cost of repairs.

The car seems new enough that an extended warranty can be purchased, and it is well worth it. Also, as others have said, have an audi technician look over your car to make sure there are no current issues. I have a 2005 s4 and am lucky enough to have a friend who is a tech, so I've been lucky, but I still purchased the extended warranty to save me parts costs. Even at wholesale, they can be expensive. Regular maintenance is a necessity as well to keep it in proper shape. I have a friend who has a 2001 a4, didn't maintain it, and if it wasn't for my tech buddy, would have cost him $3000 in repairs due to sludge buildup. Be consistent in your maintenance and the car will run forever. Also call a dealership's service department and ask about any recalls on the car. That's obviously covered by audi. I know there was a recent recall on the coil packs for almost all post 2000 audis, including mine.

I have an audi, and while it's a good car, repairs and normal wear and tear replacement can be pretty costly. I have a 2001 S4, and have spent quite a good deal of money on replacement, easily more than 6k of the course of owning it. An example, today my window regulator broke, due to a plastic flywheel. The total replacement cost was 450 dollars, because the whole guide assembly needed to be replaced and re-riveted. I had a different window break previously, and had it replaced at a different repair shop, and that cost me around the same.

I've got a 2002 A4 1.8T Quattro and agree with the others. It is an awesome car but it is very costly to maintain. I don't even want to calculate the amount of $$ I've spent on mine since getting it 2nd hand in 2006 but I'd guess it's somewhere between $10k - $15k. This includes maintenance and repair bills from replacing the windshield, fixing minor fender bender damage, timing belt replacement, etc.
I'd also 2nd having a qualified mechanic inspect it before purchasing it. Ours had damage to it that cost about $7k to properly repair since whomever repaired it prior to my buying it didn't replace a bunch of parts.

Here's a shot:

Stay away from the Allroad, I own one and I've had a problems with it. I baby it and it has been the most problem riddled car I've owned. Which is surprising coming from Audi, never had problems in the past with Audi's.

If you like 17 mpg then it is a gem, the gas mileage on it is terrible. It just sucks gas, for the money I'd rather get a bit better mileage and snag an A4. Or hell just go all out and get an RS4.
