Slow day today so I started designing and grinding my new knife. (someday I'll get to keep another one, the damascus one I just made is gone) Anyway....I was looking over Bruces site again and decided I'd build a coke bottle handle this time.

Are the three pins in the middle the only thing holding the blade/handle together or is there epoxy in there also. I just imagine the pins developing a little slop and the handle getting the shakes.

Have you ever considered making the blades detachable so you can attach other things, Knife, fork, saw (Just Kidding):D :D

Thanks!

Peter,Once you have the handle pieces put together and ready to secure it to the knife,Yes you use epoxy and then I drill and pin the handle through the tang..
And then finish the handle out.
You can leave the pins out and just notch the tang and epoxy the handle only,do this after you have the handle completely finished out.And the guard buffed out...

Do the pins serve any purpose? Do they take some of the strain of holding the scales on or are they just for aesthetics?

The pins around the handle secure the scales to the frame..The ones in the middle secure the handle to the tang..
You don't have to make all the pins around the sides go all the way through just a few key ones to secure the scales,But I like the symetry of the pins all the way through plus the added holding of the scales.
