Good question. I'd like to know also. I just ordered one this morning with walnut.

Made in U.S.A. Walnut. Chinese walnut was not working out.

:)

I don't know where it comes from, but I do think you have the best chance (among the $7.50 woods) of getting nice grain by going with walnut.

My question is not where it comes from, but what species of tree:

Juglans nigra - American Black Walnut
Juglans regia - English Walnut (a.k.a. Persian Walnut or Kyrgyzstani Walnut)

Both species grow extensively in America.

Well, I'm as anxious as anything to see the answer.

Where are the Buck wood experts?

O.K. Plumber, You ain't gettin off that easy! What type of blade did you get? Brass or nickle furniture? :) I've been specing out a custom 110 with walnut myself. I want brass with rivets and I almost put the order in for it yesterday, But I held off pending an email to Buck about the availablity of a Damascus blade! If I can't get the Damascus, I am thinking of pursuing one of the aftermarket blades and trying to do one myself. I've got some beautiful North carolina Black Walnut Burl slabs that I have had stashed back for years just waiting on a worthy project! My walnut was found under a wormy chestnut barn that a friend tore down for the boards. The barn had to be over 100 years old.
I picked up a donor knife for the project, But I won't know if it's going to be a 2 dot or older variant untill it gets here, So I won't be able to bring myself to using it if it is.

I am searching for an answer on this one but I always thought it was a laminate of some type. I'll find out for sure though.

Actually, I ordered two of them today.

#1-S30V, NS, Walnut/with rivets.

#2-S30V, NS, KOA Flamewood/no rivets.

Thanks for sharing that. I hope you put some pics up when they get here. I kept playing with the NS vs. brass. It's hard to decide between the two. The walnut they show on the site doesn't look like a laminate, But I guess we only get to see a top view of it. It still looks good and the price is great. The flame wood is very pretty too. I hope they get back to me with a yey or nay on the Damascus blade!
In another post I read that Buck was now using SS Damascus. I suppose it would be better to ask in another thread about it instead of hijacking this one(sorry!)

There are SO many questions about the Custom Shoppe!!!

Maybe Joe could recruit somebody from the Custom Shoppe to start a sticky thread dedicated to questions about the Custom Shoppe.

That way we could refer those with questions to that sticky.

I'm bringing this up as a reminder. It's still an open question. :)
Thanks for looking into this, Joe.
