Chris,
I just wanted to ask you what your knives generally run, what style they are, and how I could possibly get one. I've seen some of the pictures, read about some of them, and I have to say i am in love. I have quite a collection of knives, but none that are handmade.

If the link to Chris' website works (in the signature part) click it and take a look - there are some great knives at very reasonable prices!!

Hey Kershaw,

Thanks for your interest in my knives. I've been making knives for a little under a year and a half now, and most of the knives that I make are folding knives.

I like making small pocket knives that have a more traditional look. Knives that you can carry to work, church, and places like that. I've not gotten into all of the high-tech materials like titanium and some of the complex stainless steels. I make a lot of slipjoint folders with nickel silver bolsters and either brass or nickel silver liners. O1 carbon tool steel is my steel of choice so far, but I have a couple of projects under way using 440c stainless.

I've been wanting to make a sunfish and a leg knife, but I've just not gotten around to them yet. I really enjoy many of the classic patterns.

Take a look at my website. You can get to it from the link below. I have a section called "Knife Examples" which contain the knives that I most commonly make, but I can also make anything else on the website.

Let me know if you find something you like. I would be honored to make the first custom knife for your collection.

Thanks -chris

Chris, would you be able to make a slip joint wharncliff (think I spelled that correct), with a nice wood handle, a three inch blade. Kind of like your Ivory wharncliff, RF#62 I believe, but not as pricy. My father and I both would love to own a wharncliff, but we can't really find anything nice. Thanks a lot!

Personally, I would like a custom leg knife! I'm new to slipjoint customs but I haven't seen one yet. That would be great!

Kershaw, shoot me an email to chris_crawford@yahoo.com and I'll get you some options and pricing info. The ivory knife that you were talking about has a sheep's foot blade. The difference between a sheep's foot and a warncliff blade is that the warncliff blade has a much longer taper than the sheep's foot. I personally prefer the warncliff, and I believe it will make a nice custom slipjoint.

Jazzman, Yea I like those leg knives too, but my wife thinks they are tacky. I believe a custom leg knife would be pretty unique. I plan on making one with a nickel silver shoe and top of leg, but I've not decided what material to use for the main part of the leg. I thought about celluloid to keep in with tradition, but something like pearl or bone would look nice also. If you are really interested in one, just shoot me an email to the address I mentioned above.

Chris,
I think that celluloid would be great and really keeping in with tradition. I've actually carried a leg knife before that was advertising Ni Hi sodas...very handy knife! Mail sent :D
