I am smitten by this big-@$$ folder. But where do you guys carry it and what do you usually use it for? Or is it really just a cool collector's item? Also can I get it for less than $160?

Thanks....

I use mine for anything I'd use any big folder for. Seriously, it rips through cardboard with that D2 flat grind blade, it opens letters easily, it workds very well cutting veggies and carving meat. It's slim and disappears into a pocket far more easily than you would expect.

If you're camping, well I won't claim it's a hand axe, but you can cut pegs and do any other job expected of a knife that size.

Now I've gotten this far without even mentioning its obvious intimidation self-defense potential if the situation should arise.

And yes, you can get the Bowie version (my preference, actually,) for less than $160, more like $145 if you shop around.

I carry my Maxx clipped to my front right pocket, just like any other folder. After a few hours you'll forget it's there. If you want to go low-profile it also rides well inside-the-waistband with the clip under your belt.

I use mine as a general utility folder. It cuts stray threads, opens packages, prepares food, and breaks down boxes with the best of them. I rarely find a task where the size is a disadvantage and often find the opposite. For example, it is much more versatile than a sub-4" folder in the kitchen.

If the Maxx were primrarily just a big hunk of steel it would be a hassle to carry and use. Instead you get a great cutter with excellent balance and a comfortable grip.

The Maxx is relatively thin and disappears inside your waistband. Carried slightly behind the hip you'll soon forget it's there.

What the others have said! The D2 is quite a cutter on this knife with it's grind. I carry mine some, not at work though but after, in my left rear pocket and it cut's its share of materials with a lot of ease. It is also a very cool knife and appeals to me from that standpoint. Perhaps the biggest thing is this; I had one of the first MADD MAXX's and stupidly sold it. The Camillus Cuda MAXX is so close to the real thing, not only in materials but also in fit and finish, that I would not be able to justify buying another of the custom Maxx's again! Camillus has a real winner on their hands with this knife and it is worth the price being asked. With that said though you can find a cheaper price on the Bowie shaped blade than $160.00. The bowie blade is the most useful to me.

I'll go along with what the others have said, in that it's easy to carry and cuts nice.

I got mine here in the exchange forum (private individual, production knife forum) for $120 to my door.

I just can't justify spending over $150 on a knife to my lady, so I bought a SOG Pentagon II. It's a half inch smaller but it opens just as fast, has a great lock and opens/closes with one hand. It is an ugly ducklin but after a week of use it becomes a swan. If you want a giant folder this is a knife you must checkout. The arc-lock is a lot like an axis-lock. I got my Pentagon II for $78.

I picked up a NIB Maxx (Bowie style) on E-Bay for $107.00,that includes shipping.I carry mine clipped to my right front pocket.I use mine as a play-thing.:D

Yeah, it's a great toy. One light flick on the flipper and the blade clanks into place. Carries better in a rear pocket than most knives because you can haul it up and out by the flippers, turn and open it in one smooth motion.

Mine doesn't travel much anymore, it lives on the kitchen table, and carves and slices my daily bread .... and a lot of other food, too :D Vegetables are supposed to take a toll on an edge, but I can't remember the last time I had to sharpen it.

I had pre-ordered two of them, so one is hiding on a warm, dark shelf. No, it's not for sale :grumpy: I liked them so much I got a DDR Madd Maxx dagger. Real nice knife, but it cost more than twice the two CUDA Maxxes.

Mounted for tip down carry. Some folks have had their's redone for tip up carry though and apparently it will actually "wave" open like an Emerson product. Check out the Camillus section.

I love mine, and have yet to find anything about it that I dont like. I got mine for under $100, but that was from a fellow Bladeforumite, and may have been one of those buddy deals.
