Question for curtiss f3 owners

Hi guys I had a question for you who own a curtiss f3. I recently sent in a standard stonewashed curtiss f3 for vertical play and a loose detent. David curtiss was amazingly friendly and offered to send me a bronze anodized frag pattern in its place. Well I got the new knife yesterday, and it looked beautiful the detent is perfect as well. But I still notice some slight up and down play, it doesn't take very much pressure at all to feel it. I do not think that the lock will fail it is just slightly annoying being an expensive knife to have any blade play. So basically question is, is this normal are your guys solid like a Chris reeve knife or is it more like the old strider lockup where it will never fail but there is slight play? Everything else about the knife is perfect.

I don't have a Curtiss, but $500-600 knife should not have any blade play. At this price point, two strikes and you're out; I'd send it back for refund.

I completely agree with this. Mistakes happen but the fact that you got a completely different knife back with the same issue is a bit sloppy. I'd move on to something else unless you're dead set on having a Curtiss, in which case maybe lucky number three will be mint.

Yeah I was thinking it shouldn't be there but I also didn't want to call curtiss and sound ungrateful because he did give me a more expensive knife for free.

That's understandable, but it's also not acceptable to have a knife at that pricepoint to have any issues, especially the same one.

I would just politely reach out to Dave and explain the situation and see what can be done to set things straight.

You shouldn't feel guilty for addressing a legitimate issue, there's no reason to him to believe that you're being ungrateful.

I have more than one Curtiss knives with no vertical play. I had one that did have vertical play with some lock slip. Dave fixed it back to perfect - within 24 hours. Amazing service. My recommendation is to send Dave an email and ask him about it. Does he consider it normal or did you happen to get one with a problem? These are custom knives and those things can happen. If there's a more service oriented guy in the knife business I don't know who it is.

Contact him, we can't do anything to fix the problem for you.. You already know what to do since you have done it once before.

Spoke to him today and he is a standup man.. Who takes pride and ownership in his work. He will make this right for you because that's the kind of man he is.

Good luck!

Mine is rock solid. Since it's IKBS tighten the hell out of pivot. Might fix it. I don't think Dave would personally send you anything he didn't deem 100%

I am also having the same problem and cannot get a hold of Anybody. I have called and left a message and sent an email five days ago. He is supposed to be a stand up guy, right? Love the knife, but I cannot get ahold of anybody. Maybe they are on vacation?
