Ed,
Over on another forum title, the question was asked about what to use on sheep horn handle to preserve and protect it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

BTW--Great knife you sent me 8 years ago.

Thank you for the kind words Brownie. I am very pleased that my daughter has a good home.

You can use lanolin ( got mine from a druggest years ago), tree wax, Mink Oil (without the silicone)if you have oily skin simply fondeling the handle will keep it nice. One of the most beautiful used handles a client showed me had been rubbed with Greek Extra Vrigin Olive oil over the years.

One knife got dropped into a city sewer and due to the frozen ground had to wait until spring to get reacued. The sheep horn was absolutely beautiful! Wonderful colors - wow stuff. The blade was rusted and it took some time to clean it up, but it was a real surprise to see how it worked out.
the sheep horn has shrunk some, I coated it with lanolin and placed it in an oven at about 100 degrees, adding more lanolin as it soaked up every day or so, the sheep horn returned almost exactly it former dimensions.

I kind of wonder what was in the sewer line, but decided I don't really need to know. The extra virgin olive oil is good treatment and possibly more sanitary.

Hey Ed, maybe it was an Italian neighborhood, I bet there would be plenty of Olive oil in that sewer system!!;)

Ed,

Your daughter is just fine, a real sweetheart and heart breaker [ for others ] at the same time.

I'm going to try the "extra virgin", after all the girl deserves it.

Thanks for the reply Ed,

Stay safe
