Hello Ethan, I really like your knives and I'm interested in getting some micarta handle scales for my BK-10.

I called Camillus to ask for a set of handles that are on the BK77 and they told me that I need to ask you directly...can I buy a set?

Thanks,

I think Collector isn't the only one interested in the answer to this question! :D

Yes, I want handles already shaped and finished. Just like the handles on the new BK77.

micarta scales would be sweet, they would most likely cost more than the knife though. I have no problem with the regular Swiss handles, I've sanded them down and they feel really good and comfortable when chopping. Also, tough as hell.

I asked Camilllus for a set of handles for their new BK77 and they were ready to sell me a set for $10.00 until someone figured out that they only have enough this run of BK77's they are currently making, 500 that is.

The original handles sell for $5. These bitch'n micarta handles were/are $10 if they had any to spare. I'm sure they have a few extras in case they screw some up but I'll have to wait to get a set of those! This is simple economics...if they get enough requests for micarta handles, they will get some to sell separate. After all, it is a business.

I like the stock handles just fine but wanted a set from the Bk77 just for fun.

What's special about these other handle scales? How are they different? Not that I have a problem with the beefy regular handles on my BK10 or anything, but for $10 it would be worth an experiment just to satisfy my curiosity.

There's nothing special about them. They might not even be as comfortable as the stock handles. I called and asked out of curiosity and like you said, for $10, I'll give them a try, if the ever sell me a set!

I like the stock handles just fine. I think it would be cool to have them in a different colors, olive drab perhaps.

I'm very saticefied with the knife and probably won't buy another knife for the same use so changing the handles is just for fun!

I wouldn't mind a set of handles in orange or Hi-Viz yellow. Yeah, I know it would look hideous :barf: , but it would make the knife easy to keep track of around camp or in the dark. It might even "sheeple-ize" it by toning down the military look.

I think wood handles would demilitarize the look.

I think it's pretty easy to do. I was considering making a set...

1. start with a 1/2" thick handles slabs and rough cut the shape with a band saw or coping saw, use the stock handles as templates
2. drill the holes and counter sink appropriately, use the stock handles as templates
3. bolt the stock handles to the new rough cut scale and cut the finished profile on a router table using a flush cut bit (the one with the wheel on the tip!)
4. shape, sand and buff each scale to your desired contour
5. replace the blue fasteners with stainless

I think I'm going to make a set...I like cocobolo!
