My Shiro's steel insert would engage at around 25% when I open the knife. When I grip the knife to use, the insert would slide over to 50% engagement. I've tighten all the screws including the insert's. Is this common for you guys? I don't want to prematurely wear out my lock bar insert so I haven't been using and carrying my Shiro as much.

My hati does the same thing, lock up is consistently the same when flipped open but when force is applied from gripping it will slide over. I believe it is because typically TI framelocks stick or gall to the steel which helps it adhere to stay in place. But when you have steel to steel the surface is more "slippery" which results on it sliding over easily. It always goes back to it's original lock position, it's just really annoying lol. My ZT 0777 exhibits this behavior as well. It is just a characteristic of steel lock inserts but I don't feel it is prematurely wear out your lock face.

Which shiro where you referring to?

My Hati is the only knife I own that does that. The 0454, 0777, Higo, Anax, diskin, Sukhoi, etc will engage the lock up at a specific point and stay there regardless of how I grip the knife. The Hati needs a little pop to unlock a knife after it engages. I'm sure if the extension on the lock bar isn't there, the lock up will easily go 100% when gripping the knife.

Every framelock I have does this, including two Chris Reeve folders that I've had for five and seven years. I think it's inherent to the design of the locking mechanism and nothing to worry about.

Same for me. All my frame locks do it including my hati and the 3 I've had before.

Not to hijack but.... I want a shirogorov so bad but wonder what makes them twice the money as my trusty sebenza. If anyone can enlighten me I would be grateful. Russ

^About 2 years ago they were about 400-500.00 all of a sudden they spiked up to 800.00+ on one of the only distributors sites at the time. Now they are 800-1200.00 .They are way overpriced but people continue to pay twice to three times what they are worth. There seems to be 2 or 3 sellers of them now so they don't seem to be as scarce anymore. I bought mine when it was 400.00; well worth the price.I also have the tabargan which I paid 550 which I think is a bit high, even though those are 700-1000 but I really like it .But there is no way I can see paying what they are going for now. They are very well made, great action, etc but to me they are 400-500.00 knives.I shake my head every time I see someone paying 1200 for one, and 2500 for one of the custom division ones is just insane;there is not another 1200.00 worth of knife in those models that I can see.

Thanks for this, maybe if they come down I will get one. Russ

Keep an eye out on the exchange, and hopefully as more are available , the price will continue to drop....

I want a Shirogorov so bad! I played around on their website (even though it's in Russian) and found some of their prices. Looks to me that the actual price in Russia is well below $400, which i exactly where they should be. The dealers are marking the prices up almost 3x as high as the actual price. That's just gouging in my opinion.

I'm hoping I can get a Russian friend to buy one for me direct from Shirogorov. I agree that the current prices here in the US are simply insane.

Hi Hairlesstwinkie!

The fact you described is a normal thing for Shirogorov knives, it is technically designed for the frame to slide when gripping handle tight (performing work) for making the lock more secured and blade not to close unexpectidly. After job is done and you close knife then open once again, insert returns to its normal place. Don't worry.

Also remember some knives have a flat lock interface while others have a curved lockface. The ones with a flat lockface will engage more the stronger you grip the knife and its normal. The ones with a curved lockface prevent this from happening but the downside is they are more prone to lock rock as they wear. From the video and pics I have seen most Shirogorovs have the flatter lock face.
