Question for Gayle Bradley Owners

The GB has ruined me. Every time I look at another so-called hard use folder, I quickly dismiss it. "How could anything cut as good as my GB?" I ask myself. "Forget it's beauty and the incredible fit and finish. How could anything cut better than this?" I am not talking about slicing apples or food prep. If I want an apple I just eat it and for food prep I have culinary knives. I don't pry, or chop down trees, with my folders so a thick blade has no use for me. So what other so-called hard use folders compare to the GB for pure cutting ability? I don't have the money to try tons of knives for comparison. You guys have way more knives than I ever will so I was hoping you would lead me to a few more to look at. I get so locked in when I love a knife, I feel like I'm wearing blinders. Please help before I wind up with a Gayle Bradley tattoo. Any brand, I don't care.

Thanks,
Matt

Honest answer - if you like the GB that much, keep it and use it. I can't tell you how much money I've spent on other knives, and I'm back to still carrying the same one everyday. Save your money and enjoy what you have.

I prefer a Military over the GB, but due to temperatures here I use gloves quite a bit. I also have large hands and prefer the handle on the Military

You're probably right. I have two GB's now so I probably have the tough cutting arena covered. Seems like I am starting to collect, something I swore I wouldn't do again. It's just so hard to stop.

the PM2 and gayle bradley 1) both are grate knifes, but spyderco really hit it out of the ballpark with the GB1.

I have a Gayle Bradley 2, I generally don't reach for another one unless i have to (raining, or im wearing a suit, I have a specific knife with matching cufflinks and tieclips for my suit :p ). But for me half the fun of knife owning and collecting is trying out different brands and steels so with that in mind I would recommend trying a Steel Will Gekko 1500 or another Spyderco like Schemp Bowie.

Thanks Zak, the Gekko looks like a great knife and within my $200 limit. I have also been looking at the Benchmade Crooked River

Not to hijack the thread but...the only thing that's kept me from a GB is the non-stainless m4. I'm worried that sweaty pockets or placing my thumb on the hole to open will cause too much corrosion. What's everyone's experience with this?

Hey man, don't be hijacking my thread! Just kidding:D. I think if you have acidic sweat you might see some discoloration. All day in sweaty pants could do it too. I have had no patina whatsoever on mine yet. I just wipe it off when I'm finished with it. I kind of like the whole patina thing. It's just a working knife for me. I don't use it everyday, just when I am doing some serious cutting.

Thanks for the info! And thanks for the brief hijacking :D
I definitely don't mind a patina, but corrosion definitely concerns me. Either way, I really need to pick one of these up at some point, especially after this thread!

I carried several different GBs for the better part of six months—most of those months were in Texas summer. (Who am I kidding? Texas has 5 months of summer, 6 months of summerer, and Christmas.) The only change in the blade I saw was a slight darkening on the tang where my thumb often rested and some patina from cutting through foods that had any sort of acidic content. I never oiled the blade, but I did clean it off regularly and wipe it dry.

As long as you don't mind patina and you're conscientious enough to keep the blade clean, I don't think you'll have any issues.

But your sweat may vary... :D

Sentences uttered by Knife Knuts everywhere. You are not alone.

I thought I wouldn't collect, but it can't be helped. Spyderco makes such damn fine knives!!

Eezox is the answer. There isn't a better preventative on the market. I treat all my knives with it. There isn't a speck of rust on any them. Eezox is amazing stuff!

Interesting, never heard of that. Thanks for the info

It's been around for years. I use it on the exterior of my firearms and inside barrels for storage... as well as my knives. It is excellent stuff. If you search the web, you'll find many tests that show Eezox stomping the competition. Here's one from a member here on the forum.

That thread should be a sticky on M T & E! Thanks.
To OP, sorry for OT, my problem is sweat and it's pitting rather than rusting. I have since put patina and still monitoring.
