Greg,

In your book you list recommended items for a survival kit, but don't say much about minikits to carry in your pocket. What would you include in one?

A mini kit should provide enough equipment to meet your "five survival essentials" in a pinch and provide tools which help with improvising. I think it should be personalized to each individual.

I carry one that has the following items (please note that this is a small kit which is carried in the cargo pocket of my pants... I have a much larger one which is carried in my pack/or camelback):

1. Personal Protection:
-Clothing: garbage bag
-Shelter: garbage bag
-Fire: small metal match, tinder

2. Signaling: small siganl mirror/flat whistle

3. Sustenance:
-Water: water balloon or condom/iodine tabs
-Food: snare wire/fishing hooks and line

4. Travel: button compass (gross navigation)

5. Health:
-Psychological stress:
-Traumatic injuries: band-aids and dressings
-Environmental injuries:

Improvising tools:
-small folding blade knife
-550 parachute cord
-sail needle

While looking at my list.... use the model to create your own.... remember that you have certain needs but don't forget that your pockets are only so big.

Best
