Do all of the microtech OTF knives or autos have a little bit of blade play when the knife is fully extended out of the handle? also, how do these microtechs hold up as far as stabbing tests go? do the blades stay locked in place pretty good? i was looking at some of them online and they are very expensive, so before buying one i was wanting to know a few things... any help on these questions is greatly appreciated.

i had an ultratech, and there was some play when extended.

i wouldnt to any heavy stabbing, the mechanism has a few small parts in there iirc. i never had the lock fail, either.

otherwise it was very durable, excellent fit and finish.

are the OTF microtechs made for SD, primarily? they look great. only thing i was worried about was the spring or lock being weak......

that is my understanding. the rescue type knives they offer are side openers.

the lock is about as strong as it could be i suppose, but it would likely take less pressure to get it to fail.

i dropped mine on wood from about 4-5 feet many times, i didnt want to throw it, and it stuck easily and the lock never failed.

I have a Troodon and it locks up tight. If I could do it again though I think I would get a Scarab single edge. Or a Dalton!

Most D/A OTFs have a slight bit of play, were it not there blade ejection/retraction would be pretty slow.

I think you have to have a little play just for the sake of opening ease. It's the nature of the beast with otf's

Yes they always have a little blade play but as far as lock strength. Well I have seen torture tests where MT Ultratecks were hammered through a 2X4 and had no failure. The single action OTF have the least blade play.

they all have bladeplay, i've seen a film of a guy stabbing the heck outta a 55 galion drum, didnt hurt it, IIRC it was a scarab, was a MT for sure.
